“Abort the Summit” by Nutnfancy (‘Glacier Call’ Pt 2)

PART 2: Going to Plan B could save your life. Sometimes hikers get so focused on accomplishing their wilderness goals, they lose sight of the danger that creeps upon them. They may have over reliance on their fitness levels, their LCBs, and their gear. Conditions change rapidly and can pose lethal threats in high alpine environments. In this Nutnfancy backpack adventure with friend “Cr0cket20,” you will see how we divorce ourselves from ego to make the right call at about 10000 ft elevation on an icy, foggy, and sleet driven glacier. I try to be ready for about any alpine emergency, carried within my Kelty SuperTioga backpack. But good gear preparation is actually just a small part of the equation. It can’t and won’t compensate for poor judgement and foolishness. As shown in this adventure series, despite excellent rain gear and insulation, in these sleeting and drenching conditions it is impossible to stay dry while on the slope. Core temperatures can plummet rapidly. This consideration along with occasional zero-zero visibility conditions, our tiredness levels while on the steep slope, the passing storms (thunder and lighting too), lack of crampons and ice gear, and approaching darkness made my decision clear as the “Expedition Leader” to change our plans and get out of there. Maybe it was a “Glacier Call” that kept us safe. Descending to our bugout location, we bivouac in the driving rain and sleet. Tents are erected, we don some dry clothes, crank the stoves, and warm

Many say you blabber, you say so yourself. It is in videos like these when it comes in to full use. One might even say it is a talent! I’ve made videos of simmilar hikes but they are only ok to us that were there. With the good filming, editting and personalitys of the crew you take me (us) all along. Keep “blabbering” my friend, this is yet another interesting great vid!

Classically smart call to abort the summit attempt, and great use of music!

  10. rbandgh3 says:

@HITMANMONSTER IDK how bulky it would be though. It would prob. help, but then again the slopes on the glacier and all the rock faces would mean that you would struggle with it and need to remove all the items from it occasionally. Also, idk how strong a foam sled is.

  11. HITMANMONSTER says:

@rbandgh3 hey like a foam one at like walmart

  12. rbandgh3 says:

@HITMANMONSTER good luck carrying it through all the rock and non-snow areas.

I liked how you guys liked to keep the levity involved in your hike. Even in the dangerous conditions, keeping your spirits up with good humor “Glacier Olympics” loved it.

@CampfireTalk I can’t agree more. I often get lulled into a false sense of how things will be based on previous trips. Sometimes when I’m lucky much of the earlier trips have been mild weather, then I forget how it can turn sometimes. Well said Campfire.

  22. Cr0cket20 says:

@leestephenj Yet I never complained about my hands because they were warm : )

  23. Cr0cket20 says:

@Porsche917LH I’ve purposely tried to limit it. Just don’t want to monopolize too much on another channel. I do enjoy reading the comments though.

I had the chance and the great honor to meet Laurie Dexter! I have worked on Ocean Nova where Laurie was expedition leader, he was the one teaching me how to look at Antartica! I’ll never forget that experience! Thank you Laurie!
