I see where you’re coming from, but it is ridiculous how much they think it is impossible to look good because of their genes. The amount they excuse themselves with that is pathetic. They really don’t believe they can look like Jack LaLanne – pretty much anybody without some serious medical condition that prevents them from lifting weights can look like Jack in a few years with an appropriate exercise and diet routine. The ideal human being is very subjective, but the range what most women and men find ideal in the opposite sex – for example in men – low bodyfat, strong arms, large chest, abs, broad shoulders, etc. – is attainable by pretty much anyone. Some people will get there faster than others depending on genetics – e.g., testosterone levels, somatotype, etc., but everyone can get there. > Even if we busted out asses and lived like monks, we’d still only be SLIGHTly more toned, because like it or not, these are the bodies our genes FUCKing give us… Anyone who tells you different, is selling a load of bullshit. > Your body shape was all mapped out from the day you were born. You bone structure and muscle insertion points were mapped out from the day you were born. Got slender shoulders? Make your deltoids bigger. It’s that simple. > Our goal went beyond a little extra fitness – we wanted to fuckin’ BE Jack LaLanne. Too bad only a small percentage of us even had the genes to pull it off Pretty much any man has the capacity to achieve the body he had in his prime years. Some people just take longer than others. The bullshit exercise equipments they mention in this video I’m not arguing about. Those ARE almost always bullshit. But they have nothing on a barbell, some weights, and a bench. > If his program works, why aren’t his students and everyone that buys his product by taking turns posing for these covers? Because the main setback people have in achieving the body they want is not genetics, but lack of dedication and motivation. Ectomorphs can become quite heavily muscled. It just takes much longer than, say mesomorphs or endomorphs. From an evolutionary standpoint, it would not make sense for some humans to not be able to adapt to their environments, while others can as easily as Penn & Teller make out. > According to genetic scientists, it’s nearly impossible for [endomorphs] to become lean. It is faaar form impossible for endomorphs to become lean. Weight loss for endomorphs is the same as anyone else – calories in < calories out. If an endomorph consumes fewer calories than he/she expends, he/she will lose weight. Endomorphs are simply better at conserving calories than, say, an ectomorph. > And then there’s mesomorphs – the Clark Bartram type, who find it easier to build muscle than make a decision on whether to shave or wax. As a pure mesomorph (it is actually a spectrum – Meso – Endo – Ecto), I find this insulting. No matter what your genetics, building significant muscle mass is a long, hard process that people of all genetic background give up on. The main thing that separates those that can become fitness models and those that don’t are more subtle than ability to build muscle mass. With a few years of hard work and dedication, anyone can achieve the size magazines are after. When it comes to making a cover for a magazine, there are a lot of people the creators can choose from. Many people have achieved the size they are after. What it comes down to after that are the subtle things like bone structure (broad shoulders, small hips and waist are desirable for men), muscle insertion points (e,g., the point where the bicep connects to the tendons in the elbow, or the space between the two pectoral muscles) and muscle shape (e.g., some people’s biceps are more “peaked” than others, and some people have more square, geometric pectorals than others.) And then, of course, they also look for people with attractive faces, skin, etc. That’s why they annoy me. I guess I haven’t lost ALL respect for them, but they annoy me now. P.S. Those aren’t nearly all the pathetic quotes in the video – I stopped watching at about 7:00. I think I made my point though, so I’m stopping.
