    True about muscle mass. But, how can you cut your calorie intake 100 calories a day when the daily caloric intake for most people varies 300 to 600 calories a day? Answer, you cannot. Furthermore, calorie restriction has been proven to be unsuccessful. It is not how many calories you eat. The important thing is what your body does with the calories you give it. The body does different things with different types of foods. So the answer isn’t cutting calories but eating the right foods.

    @TransUnicorn you don’t make a lick of sense.

    Witch doctor shaman Mehmet Oz speaks with a forked tongue. Evil plans are attractively packaged and rely on the duplicity of moral people to get implemented as exemplified by our brave soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan passing out candy and teddy bears on Monday, and killing scores of children with depleted uranium on Tuesday.

    @Dominiekske well i agree with you but lets just say you usually have 2-3 250ml glass of coca cola a day. well thats 110 calories per glass. so take 1 coke out of the equation and youll be eliminating 110 calories a day. its just small things like that, you dont necessarily have to know how many calories you consume a day. but i do see your point for sure.

  13. Dominiekske says:

    I think he’s absolutely right from a physical point of view. I just have two issues:
    1. To cut 100 calories from your diet, you have to have had a set amount of calories you ate before. Many people get a very different amount of cals every day. Plus, counting calories is really not the way to spend your life…
    2. It’s not very motivating to only lose a pound a month. I think many people couldn’t do it because they would need to see the weight shifting in order to stay motivated.

  14. Dominiekske says:

    @tikkihut58 Maybe just start out by eating healthily and walking more, and once you’ve lost a bit of weight you can start doing exercises to build muscle?

  15. SpankRamen2 says:

    Dr. Oz is so fine.

    I understand all of this but have a question hopefully someone can answer or point me in right direction. Question is: I am a quadreplegic [injury site at C-5 & 6 vertabrae], up till 2 1/2 yr.’s ago my weight was 175 and now is 247, I’m 6′-0”, have normal cholesterol / blood pressure – etc. but I am not able to do the exercises. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thank you…

    @gledalac1979
    sugar is not bad as long as u eat natural sugar as in fruits
    artifical sugar is the real killer (white bread/rice, pasta, cookies, ice cream, soda, fruit juices etc)

  18. gledalac1979 says:

    @esteem2
    not if you eat carbohydrates

  19. gledalac1979 says:

    it’s not calories but too much sugar which triggers insulin which stores sugar as fat. Remove as much sugar from your diet and you will lose weight not even counting calories

    It’s amazing to read the comments by people who probably didn’t pass high school biology criticize the suggestions by a doctor who does heart surgery….Everything I’ve ever heard from Dr. Oz I agree with 100%……

  23. xxdiogenescynicxx says:

    Nope I eat different amounts all the time and I never ever count calories. Hormones play an important role in whether we gain weight or not. Eat 1000 calories of oreo cookies or 1000 calories of tomatoes and free range chicken, and just watch what happens. See how you feel and you will most definitely gain weight eating refined foods.

  24. esteem2 says:

    You’re body has adapted to your daily caloric intake. Add or subtract from your norm and you will see results.

  25. xxdiogenescynicxx says:

    Our bodies weren’t meant to handle all the insulin that floods it from eating processed food mostly refined sugars and carbs. It isn’t necessarily the calories we intake it is the quality of these calories, I have only eaten organic and free range whole foods for years and I eat tons of calories and never gain a pound because my hormones are in balance.

    Do you think that when a heart surgeon from NYC applies to work in Seattle or LA, they say, “That’s great that you didn’t kill anyone at First General on 57th street, but, do you have any published video of you doing surgery pro bono we can watch so that we know you’re not full of it?”

    We can all go around ridiculing people for their parasocial behavior, but the reality is that we’re all fascinated with celebrities one way or another. Take this article, for instance. If there wasn’t such fascination, there wouldn’t be a whole bunch of pompous I’m- too- good- for- this reading it so they could substantiate their bigotry against those who engage in such “pitiful” pursuits. In this day and age of disconnection, the closest to a caring friend for some people is Oprah. For some people, the closest they’re ever going to get to glamour is Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Is glamour that important? Maybe not. Is having a tertiary education important? Is being a good mother important? Says who? Society sets certain standards but it’s impossible to achieve all of them. And for some people, even achieving something simple things might be a struggle. Not everybody has the intelligence, motivation or income to become a heart surgeon. But we all have the need to feel that we belong somewhere. We don’t all have a life full of challenges and possibilities. Some people just need to escape their lives so they can get the courage to face another day of sameness.

  31. Chuck says:

    Well, it doesn't really matter.
    About the heart surgeon and the mechanic thing, the heart surgeon could well be fully versed in his area of work, but he could know nothing about fixing a car, where as the car mechanic does, but he might not know anything about health and medicine.
    At my school, we have sets, the smartest are in the top sets, and the not-so-smart are in the bottom sets. There are more boys in top sets than girls, but some of the girls are smarter than some of the boys.
    Basically, education is about careers, but you could have an amazing career (e.g designer) but you might not be that smart. To be a designer you have to have an imagination and able to draw.
    I believe that mentally, men and women are equal. That's what really matters.
