How many calories should teens eat to lose weight?
I’m 15 and want to lose some weight. My BMR is 1700 calories and people say to lose weight you should consume 500 less calories per day, but this would take me to 1200!!
I heard that teens need more because of growth, so im confused how many calories to consume.
I dont want anyone telling me that im too young to diet, I just want to know how many calories to consume in a day if i do moderate exercise?!?!

Listen all people of all ages. Losing weight is simple science. You have to intake less calories than you burn to lose fat. Simple as that, you could be an olympic swimmer, eat tons of terrible fatty foods and still lose weight because you’ve burned more calories than you intake.
It’s different for everyone, just eat what you want to and don’t even try to count. I counted mine once and it turns out I eat about 4000 calories per day, yet I’m 6″0 and only 137lbs. Also I barely exercise at all. Doesn’t make any sense. So my advice is to just wing it =)
Your BMR is the number of calories you’d burn if you were to lie in bed all day and not move. Take your BMR and google the Harris-Benedict equation. Choose the appropriate factor based on your physical activity level and multiply it by your BMR. For instance, if you’re working out moderately 3 or 4 times a week, you’d multiply 1700 by 1.55 for a total of 2635 calories. THIS is the number of calories you need a day to maintain your weight. Subtract 500 from that and you get 2135 – a much more manageable number.
Calorie intake = Target 1700 calories per day intake. Diet does not loose weight.
Thanks! Basically, I eat about 1500-1700 calories per day and have reduced my carbs and sodium significantly. I eat fruits (2-3 per day), vegetables (6+ per day), nuts, lean meats and nonfat Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I NEVER cheat. I brought a lunchbox with me on Thanksgiving and Christmas and I plan ahead when I go to other places where food is being served. I drink tons of water and no soda, etc. and I work out 5-6 times weekly, alternating cardio and weights (I need to dial in the organization of my fitness plan a little). My main goal is to run a marathon by the time I am 35 (3 1/2 years away).
If one goes overnight from being a “burn 3 thousand calories per day” construction laborer, to a “burn 1 thousand and four hundred calories per day” telemarketer… the solution is blatantly and glaringly obvious.
I know of at least 3 people who died within one year of surgery due to complications such as ruptures and leakege. Also I know people who still have trouble eating food after 4 years. I think that any time that a procedure known to help people with stomach cancer is used to lose weight, there will be detriments to health. The body is unable to properly absorb what it requires to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
