I would have to agree that your build and strength is part of your genetic make up. I am 5'11" and weigh about 178. I tried for years doing weight lifting, strength training and more to build my size up bigger but not avail. No matter what I did my body would tone up but building muscle mass just never happened after a certain point. On the other hand my best friend, who was the same size and height as me in high school started training at the same time I did and he bulked up and got to be a monster. My family are all like me. His family are all like him. I am not scientist but I have to agree that genetics do matter.

Hi Rob! Point well taken re: funding for communication/project management/etc. rather than for research. Also, I just found an interesting reference on 2020 Science to a discussion about the move to merge the science ministry with another ministry, which you mentioned recently. Weirdly to me, the individual charged with responsibility for the science portfolio will also have responsibility for defence procurement. I'll have some links up on my blog or you can go to 2020 Science (Andrew Maynard's blog) or go to the I'm a scientist, Let Me Out Of Here blog for a record (and comments) of the Twitter discussion with the minister of the new science/defence portfolio.

  3. You know what? I have always hated strength training, too, but this year I've been making a conscious effort to do it and I actually am enjoying it and it's becoming a habit! If a few days have gone by and I haven't done any strength training, I actually think, “gee, I don't want to lose that tone I gained in my biceps, I need to do some strength training”. My best advice is just DO IT. Do it for a month and see if you feel differently. I have to mix it up, too, so I don't get bored: Different DVDs, doing my own thing, using workouts I find on the Internet.

Also, I'm very familiar with horrible Nighttime Downfall of unhealthy eating!
